Anodising tiny aluminium bird leg bans

Posted in the category on 15 January 2015

Australian Anodising has recently anodised tiny aluminium bird leg bans so researchers can track the movement of the Rofous Fantail. The bird leg bans were anodised different colours to make tracking easier while also increasing the durability of the aluminium ban.

The Rufous Fantail is found in northern and eastern coastal Australia, being more common in the north. It is also found in New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Sulawesi and Guam. They migrate to south-eastern Australia in the spring to breed, beginning in September, peaking in October, they then return north in the Autumn.
